Print On Demand Sales
We can now make your print book available on a print-on-demand basis on Takealot, South Africa’s version of Amazon. This service is available through our printers, Print On Demand, which has negotiated a bulk deal for the books it has printed. The benefit of this system is that the author has no capital outlay upfront, except for the small upload fee, and no issues with postage and dispatch – simply direct customers to Takealot, and all will be done for you! Here is a link to one of our own books on Takealot, so that you can see what it looks like: Click on the Takealot logo.
Print On Demand is a printing technology and business process, which Tertius van Eeden CEO of the company Print On Demand, calls the “Book of One” philosophy, in which copies of books and other printed matter are not printed until an order is received, allowing prints of single copies or small quantities to be undertaken. This has been made possible by the advent of digital print technologies.
This process was to a large extent perfected and popularised by eCommerce giant Amazon, which remains one of the few companies worldwide to offer it successfully. POD (the company – not the process!) has been building towards this model for a number of years now, and, realising it does not have the muscle to do so itself, has entered into some strategic partnerships to fast track the process, providing unique benefits and opportunities for self-published authors in South Africa.
Your book can of course also be uploaded to Amazon for international Print On Demand sales. Click on the logo to see one of our books on Amazon.
Both these services carry a small upload fee and, in the case of Takealot, a small annual access fee.
