Salty Words

This is a unique collection of poetry by Port Elizabeth mother of three, 40-year-old Irene Sout – unique in that she has created wonderful “folk” poetry in three languages – Afrikaans, English and isiXhosa. Her poems reflect the reality of life in the Eastern Cape – violence, gangs, poverty, as well as love, humour and respect.

Dit is ‘n unieke versameling gedigte deur Port Elizabeth moeder van die drie, 40-jarige Irene Sout – uniek in die sin dat sy wonderlike “volkspoësie” in drie tale geskep het – Afrikaans, Engels en isiXhosa. Haar gedigte weerspieël die lewenswerklikheid in die Oos-Kaap – geweld, bendes, armoede, sowel as liefde, humor en respek.
